| | For 145 years the YMCA of Central Massachusetts has been building strong kids, strong families and strong communities throughout Central Massachusetts.
Originally chartered to "improve the spiritual and mental condition of young men", the YMCA has evolved, but the basic mission, rooted in Judeo-Christian principles, has remained. From its first permanent home in downtown Worcester, constructed in 1886, the organization has grown and now serves more than 30,000 men, women, boys and girls annually throughout its 40 town service area. Committed to affecting positive change, the YMCA has been recognized for its efforts in the areas of character development, teen programs, homelessness, neighborhood revitalization, international partnerships and summer camps. Prevention programs and health initiatives also go hand in hand with its philosophy of developing spirit, mind and body in everyone the YMCA serves. In this spirit, it is the largest provider of childcare services, infants through school-aged, in Worcester County. The YMCA operates eight pre-school through kindergarten programs, as well as eleven licensed after school and vacation centers. More than 800 boys and girls are served daily in the childcare programs.
The YMCA continues to be a critical component of Greater Worcester's social infrastructure and a strong contributor to the region's quality of life. The team of caring staff and volunteers reach out to all people, regardless of age, income, ethnicity or religion. In addition, the YMCA is actively involved with more than 100 partnerships and collaborations with schools, churches and human service organizations. Adapting to the changing needs of the diverse population we serve, the YMCA recognizes the critical issues that face youth and families. Thanks to the innovation and vision of staff and a committed cadre of volunteers, the YMCA continues to be a vital force in the area. As we enter the 21st century, we are, and will continue to be a force for good will and a beacon of hope for thousands in our community.Annual Reports 2008 Annual Report 2009 Annual Report
